You get "points" for being sick, even with a doctor note because Nectar considers being sick "at will". Impossible to get coverage if you have plans or are sick. Started out as a fun job with very nurturing senior leads. If you really want to work for Nectar, stay a budtender. I loved my job until I went to a more corporate position and saw how everything really went down. When budtenders confronted the scheduling department about the issue, they received write ups for “disrespect.” They were told to find open shifts at other locations, otherwise scheduling couldn’t help. Some budtenders were left scrambling for shifts for three weeks after a new store didn’t open on time, but everyone had already been taken off the schedule at their home store. ![]() There are too many friends and family members in powerful positions that they aren’t qualified for. The company is expanding too fast and isn’t equipped for it. If they don’t like you or know you well, you will be fired from the first mistake you make. Your mistakes are easily overlooked if they like you. As most reviews say, you need to be friends or family with the owners to succeed. If you want to advance, find another company. Anyone higher than a shift lead? Don’t trust them. Other budtenders, for the most part, are great. Nectar is a fun place to work if you want to budtend and only budtend. Overall, the company is decent, however, difficult to grow with dependent on your aspirations and expectations of salary. ![]() HR is caring and will work with you to find a different position within the company if you prove to be a valuable/motivated employee. Working holidays typically gives you a larger average from $55-$25 tips per shift. ![]() ![]() Depending on the store location and # of staff (split tips equally with coworkers) you can make an average range of $35-$3 per shift. At times it feels like a popularity contest in regards to who is chosen for management positions or employee of the month, sometimes a lead (manager) is chosen only for them to last several weeks before getting demoted or quitting which results in it being difficult to connect with management. Long term, I wouldn't say it's as easy to advance positions while working for the company as they claim during training to new-hires. Nectar began as a great opportunity for me as an entry level budtender within a new city/market, however, as time passed I felt my assets and knowledge were wasted along with my efforts commonly went unappreciated granted, there were some amazing coworkers both budtenders and managers who helped me grow as an employee and individual.
